Drake Troutman scores runner-up finish in DIRTcar Nationals finale at Volusia Speedway Park
Rolling back into Volusia Speedway Park (De Leon Springs, Fla.) on Monday afternoon, Drake Troutman and his Team 22 Inc. Motorsports team prepped for six straight days of racing at the facility for the DIRTcar Nationals.
After missing Monday's $7,000 opener, Troutman recorded a pair of 15th-place finishes on Tuesday and Wednesday ahead of the points races through the weekend.
With the World of Outlaw Late Model Series sanctioning the remainder of the event, Drake finished 18th on Thursday evening and 24th in Friday's $12,000-to-win feature.
Saving his best run for the $20,000-to-win finale on Saturday, Troutman logged the third-quickest lap in his qualifying group before picking up the heat race victory. Drake redrew the pole position for the 50-lap main event and led the first 39 laps. Jonathan Davenport snuck by Troutman in the waning laps but he was able to hang on for a runner-up finish behind Davenport.
The finish matches his best-career outing with the series.
