Drake Troutman begins 2023 season at Volusia for Sunshine Nationals
The 2023 campaign kicked off for Drake Troutman on Thursday afternoon with a visit Volusia Speedway Park (Barberville, Fla.) to pilot his Wheeler Fleet Solutions No. 7 MB Customs Late Model for the fourth annual Sunshine Nationals.
With 47 Late Models on the ground for the season opener for the World of Outlaws Case Late Model Series, Troutman timed in 23rd-fastest in his group before placing 12th in his heat. Transferring into one of three consolation races for another shot at the opening night feature, Drake’s night was over after jumping up two positions to finish 13th.
For another $8,000-to-win preliminary feature on Friday, Drake came in eighth in his heat, relegating him into a B-Main for another shot at the A-Main. Slated to start deep in the field, Troutman was a scratch to save equipment.
An unfavorable forecast for Saturday’s program forced officials to cancel the Sunshine Nationals finale.
