Tire Issues Hamper Troutman’s Mega 100 Weekend

Thursday night found Drake Troutman in action at Tyler County Speedway (Middlebourne, W.V.) competing in the Late Model and Modified ranks for the King of the Ring 40. Drawing 30 Late Models for the $5,000-to-win A-Main, Troutman was running in third in his heat when he suffered a broken lift-bar. Needing a second place finish or better in his B-Main to make the main event, Drake passed four cars to place fifth, but fell short of a transfer position. (Zach Yost Racing Photography)

In his Modified, Drake followed up the fastest time overall in qualifying with a heat race victory. Rolling off fourth, Troutman overtook the leader on the high-side in the final laps before ultimately settling with a second place finish behind Daniel Hill with Travis Dickson, Michael Altobelli, and Jesse Wisecarver rounding out the Top-5.

After Mother Nature wiped out Friday night’s event at Ohio Valley Speedway (Washington, W.V.), Troutman returned to Tyler County Speedway (Middlebourne, W.V.) on Saturday for the Modified Mega 100 finale. Pulling double duty again, Troutman followed up the ninth fastest lap in a field of 20 Late Models with a third place finish in his heat. With $2,000 on the line in the feature, Drake dropped one spot in the 30-lapper to place seventh.

With a stout field of 52 Modifieds on hand for the $3,000-to-win Mega 100, Drake came in eighth fastest overall in time trials before placing third in his heat. Starting the main event in 14th, Troutman suffered back-to-back flat-tires, forcing him to withdraw early from the feature.
